Plant growth: Roots in the cell cycle
نویسنده
چکیده
Overexpression in transgenic plants of a B-type cyclin--thought to regulate cell-cycle progression to mitosis--causes structures such as roots to grow faster than normal, indicating that the rate of cell division may be a constraint on plant growth.

Cell cycle modulation in the response of the primary root of Arabidopsis to salt stress.
Salt stress inhibits plant growth and development. We investigated the importance of cell cycle regulation in mediating the primary root growth response of Arabidopsis to salt stress. When seedlings were transferred to media with increasing concentrations of NaCl, root growth rate was progressively reduced. At day 3 after transfer of seedlings to growth medium containing 0.5% NaCl the primary r...
متن کاملStress Messengers Jasmonic Acid and Abscisic Acid Negatively Regulate Plant Cell Cycle
Environmental stress affects plant growth and development. Several plant hormones, such as salicylic acid, abscisic acid, jasmonic acid and ethylene play a crucial role in altering plant morphology in response to stress. Developmental regulation often has the cell cycle machinery among its targets. We analyzed the effect of jasmonic acid (JA) and abscisic acid (ABA) on cell cycle progression in...
متن کاملRML1 and RML2, Arabidopsis genes required for cell proliferation at the root tip.
New cells are produced from the meristematic tissues located at the shoot and root tip throughout the life of higher plants. To investigate the genetic mechanism regulating meristematic activity, we isolated and characterized four single-gene, recessive mutants in Arabidopsis thaliana called root meristemless (rml). Complementation tests identified two RML loci; RML1 maps to chromosome IV and R...
متن کاملHormone activities and the cell cycle machinery in immunity-triggered growth inhibition.
Biotic stress and diseases caused by pathogen attack pose threats in crop production and significantly reduce crop yields. Enhancing immunity against pathogens is therefore of outstanding importance in crop breeding. However, this must be balanced, as immune activation inhibits plant growth. This immunity-coupled growth trade-off does not support resistance but is postulated to reflect the real...
متن کاملAntiproliferative Effects of Pancratium Maritimum Extracts on Normal and Cancerous Cells
Background: Plants are an important natural source of compounds used in cancer therapy. Pancratium maritimum contains potential anti-cancer agents such as alkaloids. In this study, we investigated the anti-proliferative effects of P. maritimum extracts on MDA-MB-231 human epithelial adenocarcinoma cell line and on normal lymphocytes in vitro. Methods: Leaves, flowers, roots, and bulbs of P. mar...
